Let's Keep Families Together
Over the past few days, we have seen the moral tragedy on our southern border. Children lashed into cages, frightened; mothers and fathers bereft of their sons and daughters, unable to contact them or even communicate their grief; and a nation brought low by the worst angels of its nature. Mere words fail to encompass the evil being done in the name of "securing our borders."
If ever there is a time for leadership, it is now.
New Leaders Council stands firmly in opposition to the current administration's inhumane policy toward children and refugees to this country. And our community will take action to resist these policies, and assist the victims.
- First, you can see a list of supplies requested by the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Antonio here. You can purchase supplies that will go directly to Casa Del Peregrino Piedras Negras (aka Casa del Migrante), a shelter that helps migrants and deportees;
- Second, you can donate to support the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the Texas Civil Rights Project, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES), or United We Dream, as they work to provide legal and day to day support to those affected;
- Third, you can use the resources available from Refugee Council USA to find a local event to attend and make your voice heard here; and,
- Fourth, New Leaders Council strongly encourages you to call your legislators and tell them to put an end to the forced destruction of families. The NAACP has collected all the resources you need to make your voice heard here.
NLC trains leaders who believe in the value of progress. It is times like these that we need to take those skills, and stand up to fight back against injustices in the world.
