This is a critical time for NLC. We opened applications for next year’s NLC Institute just a few days ago. We are identifying the next wave of emerging leaders to build community change and the progressive bench.

NLC Institute – Be a part of it
The NLC Institute is the premier leadership and professional development program for emerging leaders, offering free training, mentoring, and political and career advancement. Through intensive sessions on topics ranging from strategic communications to fundraising and entrepreneurship to coalition management, NLC provides Fellows unparalleled opportunities to master the skills necessary to lead the next generation.


With 39 institutes in 2016 and over 3,000 alumni across the nation, NLC continues to build the country’s strongest community of rising-star progressives.

Florida Conversation – Aug 21 & 22, Orlando FL

Emerging Leaders Training – Aug 23, Orlando FL
The NLC experience extends beyond the NLC Institute. Our action affiliate, NLC4, is hosting an Emerging Leaders Training that you will not want to miss. This training builds on the lessons of the NLC Institute, providing a “graduate level” training in the granular skills of civic leadership with top experts in messaging, fundraising, targeting and many other skills provide a top tier training for the NLC community. The combination of the expertise of our trainers—from local leadership to presidential campaigns—and the network built with fellow participants, will equip for your next steps in public service.

Policy Briefing with CAP Action on The Health of State Democracies Report – Aug 18
CAP Action released a huge report in July - The Health of State Democracies, which ranks all 50 states across 22 factors in the three categories of accessibility of the ballot, representation in state government, and influence in the political system, with each state also getting a grade for each category.

The authors of the report will be hosting a briefing call for members of the NLC community on August 18.
