Another Election Day = more NLC victories!

Another Election Day = more NLC victories!

Tuesday night saw Election runoff victories for New Leaders Council alumni in Georgia and New Jersey. These three individuals join the ranks of 21 New Leaders Council community members who won in November.

With the addition of these three, New Leaders Council community members are the future of progressive policy and government throughout the U.S., poised to enact change in their communities and across the country. We are proud of them and all who stepped up to run for public office.

Here are some of the highlights from Election Day:

Bee Nguyen (NLC Atlanta ’16)
State House of Representatives, Georgia

Inspired by her family to start a nonprofit to educate and empower girls in under-resourced schools, as a Georgia State Representative, now Bee will work tirelessly because health insurance, livable wages, and quality education should not be bargaining chips for any person.

James Solomon (NLC New Jersey ’15)
City Council, Jersey City, New Jersey

James is a progressive who will fight for safe streets, honest government and responsible development in Jersey City.  James is a leader in the Evict Trump/Kushner movement in Jersey City that won a hard-earned victory when Mayor Fulop rejected Jared Kushner’s Company’s request for a long-term tax break.

Nikema Williams (NLC Atlanta ’13)
State Senate, Georgia

As your Senator, Nikema will work to provide everyone with the tools and opportunity to thrive, not merely survive. Growing up, she experienced firsthand the challenges that too many families face struggling to make ends meet. She will work to overcome these challenges.

Thank you to all NLC community members who ran for office this year.  We are appreciative that they put themselves out there, stepped up to lead their communities, and have demanded that communities are a better reflection of us as NLC leaders.
