New Leaders Council-DC (NLC-DC) alumni joined over 3,000 volunteers across the city of Washington, DC on Saturday, August 25 to help D.C. Public Schools start the year off right. Now in its 7th year, DCPS Beautification Day is the official citywide "spruce up" of D.C. Public Schools and grounds. The annual event serves as a win-win for DC residents that want to give back to the community and the students that benefit from learning in well-maintained, clean and "beautified" facilities.
NLC-DC alums spent the last Saturday before the start of the school year volunteering at Stuart-Hobson, a middle school located just a few miles from the U.S. Capitol. Volunteers pitched in with major projects, such as gardening and unpacking school supplies, that the school staff were not able to do. NLC-DC alums were able to get the school building, which is currently undergoing renovation, ready for the back-to-schoolers and help teachers move their supplies back into the classroom after months of construction.
Alums bonded while dusting furniture, moving boxes in the library, picking weeds and planting flowers at the Capitol Hill cluster school. For NLC-DC alums, who are passionate about serving the DC community, it was a great opportunity to contribute our time and talent to make sure young people receive a world-class education.
