5 things you shouldn't miss from NLC

5 things you shouldn't miss from NLC

New Leaders Council is forging its path forward. In just the past few weeks, NLC has launched four new chapters, is gearing up for its annual national leadership retreat, and has added new members to the national team!

1. Welcome NLC Columbus, Dallas, Oklahoma and Portland!

NLC Chapters across the nation are hosting NLC Institutes nearly every weekend this month, and while most Fellows are focused on management training, our chapters in Columbus, Dallas, Oklahoma and Portland are kicking off their inaugural NLC Institutes. These new chapters are participating in Life Entrepreneurship and founding board member trainings! As always, we’re especially grateful to the volunteer leaders and trainers who make the NLC Institute possible.

With these newest chapters, NLC  will train more than 900 progressive leaders to make change in their communities in 2018.

Save the Date: The application for the 2018 NLC Institute will open on May 1st. Sign up to be the first to know when the application is open!

2. US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse visits NLC Rhode Island

United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse joined NLC Rhode Island for a wide-ranging conversation on the future of the progressive movement, public policy, and how millennials may make the most impact in their communities. Throughout the discussion, NLC leaders were able to engage in thoughtful dialogue on solutions to the obstacles faced by the progressive movement. NLC appreciates Senator Whitehouse meeting with our NLC Rhode Island leaders. Thank you, Senator!

3. NLC National Honorary Co-Chair Michael Blake delivers powerful remarks in favor of Raise the Age New York

Assemblymember Michael Blake gave a passionate speech from the New York State Assembly floor in support of Raise the Age. Until this weekend, New York was one of two states that set the age of criminal responsibility at 16. Assemblymember Blake has fought tirelessly to raise the age in New York, and after the vote this weekend, it is here. NLC is proud to have a passionate advocate for justice as part of our community and our leadership.

Watch Assemblymember Blake’s remarks from the New York State Assembly.

4. Crowdpac VP of Business Development Liz Jaff joins NLC as Senior Digital Fellow

NLC is excited to share that Liz Jaff, VP of Business Development at Crowdpac and former Democratic National Committee vice chair candidate, is joining the team as a Senior Digital Fellow. Liz is an accomplished political operative working for both of President Obama’s campaigns and managing competitive races in local elections. Liz will support NLC’s digital fundraising and marketing efforts. Welcome, Liz, to the NLC Family!
